Scuola Italiana di Portland Launches Intergenerational Italian Dance Troupe Inspired by Stelle di Calabria

Scuola Italiana di Portland is thrilled to announce the formation of a new intergenerational Italian dance troupe, inspired by the renowned Stelle di Calabria folk ensemble. This vibrant new group brings together community members of all ages—from spirited young dancers to seasoned culture-bearers—to celebrate and share the rich traditions of Italian folk dance.

Rooted in the joyous rhythms and colorful choreography of Southern Italy, the troupe will explore a variety of regional dance forms, including the lively tarantella, pizzica, and other traditional styles that reflect Italy’s diverse cultural heritage. With guidance from experienced instructors and guest artists, dancers will learn not only steps and movements, but also the stories, music, and meaning behind each dance.

The troupe embodies the mission of Scuola Italiana di Portland: to foster language, culture, and community through dynamic, inclusive programming.
