Memorable Italian adventures are made through language, culture, cuisine, art, music and more.  Camps are available for children ages 3 – to 12 – years-old. Camps are tailored to the age and language experience of the children; although, no prior Italian language experience is necessary.

This year, we are offering a special adult and teen summer camp! See below.

2019 Summer Camp Series

July 22 – 26, 2019 | 8:30 am – 1:30 pm | Ages 4 to 12 | $325 | Instructor: Pina Di Rosa

The Joy of Cooking (La Gioia della Cucina): Let Maestra Pina take your child on culinary journey through Italy. Together the class will make traditional dishes such as Milanese risotto and gnocchi from Sorrento as they explore various regions. Of course, no Italian cooking camp is complete without making Napoletana pizza and the classic torta della nonna. This year’s camp offers an expanded age range from 4 – to 12 years old that will allow the older chefs to become piccolo maestra and partner with the younger chefs. Activities sprinkled throughout the camp include walking excursions to local sites and picnics in the park!

Mediterranean Climbing Camp (Evviva la dieta Mediterranea con il climbing):

August 5-9, 2019 | 9:00 am – 5:00 pm | Ages 5 to 12 | $560 | Instructor: Pina Di Rosa

Scuola Italiana is partnering with Planet Granite to offer an action-packed, full-day summer camp.

Days begin at Scuola Italiana with Maestra Pina.  Campers will cook nutritious, Italian food that will gear them up for their afternoon climb. They will learn basic Italian vocabulary related to the body and movement through playful activities. All the while campers experience Italian culture. Outdoor activities include excursions to local sites and lots of Italian games.

At 1:00 pm, after your little Alpanista has carbed up with a delizioso bowl of pasta, Maestra Pina will escort children one block away to Planet Granite. There, campers will enjoy afternoons exploring all the gym has to offer including bouldering walls, learning high-roped climbing and playing lots of exciting climbing games.

Drop off at Scuola Italiana and pick up at Planet Granite.

June 18-21, 2019 | 10:00am – 1:00pm | $95 | Ages 13 and up | Instructor: Andrea Algieri

Kids don’t get to have all the fun! Scuola Italiana is offering our first ever Summer camp for teens and adults (ages 13 and up). Join local Italian musician Andrea Algieri (bio below) for a four day class that will focus on song composition. Andrea will bring his guitar and two different melodies – one upbeat and one melancholy. Students will be asked to write their own lyrics to the songs, learning how to identify the different elements in which the text is divided, and develop two original songs. Each student will culminate the class by recording their song (either performing it themselves or having Andrea perform it) and will complete the class with a CD of their work.

The class is three hours long over four days and open to teens and adults (age 13 and above). Some background in Italian is helpful, but beginners are welcome.

Andrea Algieri is an Italian sing/song writer and musician who now lives here in Portland. His artistic journey has taken him all over the world, starting from a small village in the hills of Calabria, in the South of Italy. His grandpa – Mbrascatu (dirty face in dialect) a hard-working cobbler, thought him the basics of guitar playing when he was only a child. From there he moved to culturally diverse Florence, then Mexico, and finally the United States. It has been a long route full of colors and sounds that now permeate his music, with sounds that range from folk to rock. Andrea performs with his band, named Mbrascatu in honor of his grampa, or solo. Andrea is incredibly committed to his roots, culture, and music, that he is now inspired to transmit to his own son.
